It's widely acknowledged that American rock and roll grew from a seedbed of traditional gospel music. Friday's Mondavi Center audience will hear soulful music by saxophonist Maceo Parker - a soul and funk star who has shared the stage with the likes of James Brown, George Clinton and Prince over the decades - and the Jones Family Singers - a multi-generational ensemble composed of five sisters, two brothers and their father, all steeped in the rich, spiritual musical tradition of the black church.
