Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts will present saxophone master Maceo Parker and his band, with its trademark blend of jazz, funk, R&B, soul and hip-hop on center stage at the Merriam Theater this Saturday, January 17. Parker , who first became a legend for his critically acclaimed work with the late James Brown and George Clinton 's band Parliament-Funkadelic, is one of the pioneers of modern funk and hip-hop. Having created and contributed to countless albums and live tours with names from De La Soul to Prince, Ani Difranco to James Taylor, and Jane's Addiction to Dave Matthews, his band has been billed as "the greatest little funk orchestra on earth" and the "million dollar support band."
